Passing the Torch

Well, the Doctor Who series 5 premiere kicked off last Saturday. We sat with trepidation, fearful, but excited to see where Steven Moffat and Matt Smith would take us and we were not disappointed. The same wacky, scary, yet immensely human stories of the Doctor and his TARDIS will be safe in their capable hands. Within the first episode they have already started planting the seeds of the overarching big bad of this series that lurks in the shadows. If you've never followed Doctor Who this is a great time to jump on board. You don't need any previous knowledge of the show to follow the latest series, but there are jokes and references embedded throughout for those fans of the 9th and 10th Doctor as well as those diehard fans stretching back to the 60s. My favorite scene in the premiere was when the 11th Doctor re-establishes himself as the champion of earth, much as 10 did in The Christmas Invasion after his regeneration. While there were no severed appendages, it was a powerful hand off. I don't want to say much more to keep from spoiling it for anyone who hasn't seen the episode. But as we hand off the torch to 11, I have to post this last tribute to 10 from Seduff, my favorite Doctor Who fanvid producer. If you haven't watched series 2-4, do NOT watch this video; it's a spoiler fest.
